In response to ""WWE is planning to film this week’s SmackDown from “a location they’re trying to keep secret” in a state currently under a shutdown order."" by Tim

The documentary they ran last night implies that an offer from AEW led to WWE okaying Edge's return at the Rumble. -- (edited)

I mean, none of these guys can ever stay away and he obviously wanted to return for years and after a second neck surgery took away any issues he had (he said he didn't have a headache anymore, and he didn't even realize he had a headache until it went away) things started in motion.

"After spearing Elias at SummerSlam (something his wife Beth Phoenix was not happy about, by the way), he got a call from another company. AEW isn’t mentioned, but there’s no effort to make it seem like it wasn’t Tony Khan’s promotion. The process of their offer, Edge telling them he would give Vince McMahon right of first refusal if it was possible at all, and then doctor after doctor telling him he was cleared is covered fairly transparently."
