This wouldn't be an issue if everyone restricted the prefix use to the confines of their work environments.

I don't care about Biden, but we have a client whose signature is "Dr. ..." when it has nothing to do with his work or our working relationship. It's just ego. You're Dr. in a medical office or college classroom. Everywhere else you're just -M.D. or -PhD. Or better yet, just Jill.
