to the extent that kids are making a mistake that is extremely difficult to undo, i do feel bad.

kids do a bunch of dumb harmful shit, and most of it is one-and-done "ok, well, you survived it, don't do it again". Smoking is not exactly the same thing, because drug addiction is a motherfucker.
