At dinner time tonight - *someone* suggested that I do some walking for exercise - so I walked to get Tom Yum. The restaurant is closed indefinitely. I am disappointed. So I keep walking and go to Big Buns burger place. I like big buns.
But Google Pay frustrates me. I take my card out of my wallet three times to punch in the CCV number to process my order. I get my burger and walk all the way to the grocery store, only to discover my wallet is gone. I have no cards to pay for the soap I need because my soap supply has run out at home. (I have still maintained my shower routine.)
I *think* I left it on the bench at Big Buns but maybe I dropped it during my walk. I retrace my steps twice. I ask Mr. Big Buns if someone has turned in my wallet. Nope. Come home, cancel all my cards, and think back to when it was I was gifted the wallet 25-30 years ago. Fortunately no fraud charges on the cards, but being without a driver's ID right now could become an issue.
10:45 tonight the lobby calls me to come down. There's a cop there. "I'm actually from Violent Crimes, but they were short staffed today so I was filling in. I was just ending my shift and getting out of my car at 7-11 when I looked down and saw this wallet just sitting in the parking lot. Did you use it at 7-11?"
The 7-11 was a zip code away from where I lost it at Big Buns. Cards and ID were in it but cash was gone. So someone found the wallet, drove to 7-11, took/used all the cash (about $60, not a big loss all things considered) but not the cards and just dropped the wallet and left. (or maybe the cop kept the cash and he's been running this scam for years!)
