(this is tangental, but it reminds me of people who are oblivious to what's happening)
we were at the end of his sickness, we were there round the clock, he was going to die within 48hours. i was leaving to go home for a few hours and i get in the elevator alone. this guy i'd seen in the waiting room runs to get in the elevator with me. he got in and asked if i was a nurse, i said 'no, my dad is a patient' (this is the critical care floor i'm on). I must have looked completely wiped out i might add. then he says 'well, do you want to go have a coffee?' i just looked at him and said 'no, thanks, really, i just need to go home." he actually pestered me for 13 floors in the elevator how it would be 'good for me.' I JUST met the guy as we got on the elevator. i finally had to say when we were on the ground floor, 'look, i'm sorry, but i am utterly devastated and really just need to go home." and walk away, i swear he was going to keep trying to persuade me. Dude, PAY ATTENTION!
( i know this is an elevator-boyfriend joke set up, but please don't.)
