In response to "I get why people would be suspicious but I don't think it has to be sinister motivations" by Reagen

the Gates Foundation is about a legacy and protection of wealth

they're heavily invested in companies that are DIRECTLY contributing to world heath issues (oil companies, chemical companies, etc) in order to helping keep the money coming in.

they could easily end death by starvation worldwide, but that doesn't fit how THEY would like money to be used. they are a private foundation with no accountability to anybody but the Gates' and Buffet. we have no idea if they are effective, but their buying power can influence world governments and organizations.

they like to spend money on technology because it's sexy, but really simple, practical, tried and true practices make the most impact for money spent on health. he was touting his device that will turn poop water into drinking water... but creating a clean water infrastructure would be more practical... but it's not cool and doesn't make Gates look like he's still a visionary.

are they doing good? yeah. but are they using their money in an effective way? most likely no. this is another example of why it's an insane idea to have billionaires spending money on public work with NO OVERSIGHT.
