I would imagine that it would be more cathartic for *me* to sling a little snark her way, though I would probably feel better about myself *afterward* if I stuck with a big smile and a polite remark.
I also think the snark would stick in the violator's head longer than the polite approach, but I could also see that causing a backlash.
So... I dunno. When *I'm* in that situation, I usually do neither: take a deep breath and wait it out (and have my cattle prod fantasies). Not out of "compassion", but because I figure it's like an exercise in patience.
But overall, I think that regardless of how we judge Stephen's actions, we can all agree that the lack of self-awareness and consideration for other shoppers is indeed *amazing*, throughout our nation's shopping facilities.
