A month and a half later, after hearing NOTHING FROM THEM WHATSOEVER, they invited me to dinner, ostensibly to give me the stuff I left behind. I had to leave early because I was getting crushed by COVID response. She called upstairs for her husband, she said do you want to do it now? He called down yes.
They sat me down at the dining room table. She said, we need to tell you something. OK, sitting me down for a meeting always freaks me out because I have been fired before. I was looking around like, wtf is happening. The 14 year old poked his head in the room and said, "This is an intervention!" Because he is such a little shit.
So. Going through my brain, it's an intervention! (for what?) They're getting divorced. They're moving.
She said, It turns out he, pointing at my friend for 23 years, he is really a she.
For sure I never saw that coming. Thank God I said nothing stupid like "are you sure?" What I did was I reached over and squeezed his (her) hand.
That was the first time I noticed the manicure.
This is a strange thing for me. It will take a long time to get used to. I 100% support them (this is what I have to do right now, I have to use neutral).
