One of my friends has a specific hallucination called Exploding Head Syndrome.

He get startled by a loud noise that sounds like a gunshot or small explosion.

Ah, true. I think what happens is in the silence, my hearing turns up to max levels trying to hear something. Then an actual sounds overwhelms me. -- nm
