I had something a little like that back when companies were sending you cards and convenience checks with no warning. I received a new card from

Discover - my old one hadn't yet expired so I wasn't expecting it. It was an 'affinity card' with a Disneyland motif because I lived in the Disneyland area. I called and told them I was destroying it and continuing to use the original and please don't do anything like that again. The response was "sorry, we can't control that. Either take a chance or cancel the card" I no longer have a Discover card :/
