When I moved cross-country last August, I spent 3 weeks throwing out/donating tons of stuff, so I wound up just shipping 12 boxes of essentials.

I had the benefit of buying a condo that was fully furnished, so i didn't move and furniture, just clothes and stuff I love. Also I didn't have to move kids and their junk.
