I spent a week in Gallup with my college roommate when his car's clutch went on the way to San Diego from Colorado in 1990.

car towed into Gallup, got a nice guy there at one of the hotels to take my mom's credit card over the phone (because we had no money) to let us stay there for 5 days. my mom had to wire us money via Western Union, it was quite an experience.
