from somebody on FB: "You ever hear about the marshmallow experiment?

Long time ago, researchers performed this experiment on young children. They offered them a single marshmallow. Then they said that if the kids could go 5 minutes without eating the marshmallow, they'd get two marshmallows. They could eat the first marshmallow at any time; It would just mean they didn't get a second marshmallow.

Then they followed up with those kids for decades.

The kids that couldn't wait — that said the hell with it, gave in and ate the first marshmallow, sacrificing the second — were generally less successful throughout their lives. Less stability at work and home, higher rates of crime, less happiness overall.

Turns out that learning how to wait patiently and make reasoned decisions has a lot to do with how good you are at living.

And right now, there's a whole lot of you frantically trying to eat the first marshmallow."
