I'm trying to understand the psychology of why someone would be born female, but feel they are man trapped in a woman's body (for example).

I try to sympathize, but can't quite wrap my mind around it.
Certainly, I had my own issues with liking other guys, as well as not feeling 'masculine enough'. But i never felt like I should be anything other than a penis-toting guy.
So I can't comprehend what people like Chastity Bono feel. But the number seems to be increasing, so I'm doubting it's just some form or mental disease..there must be a reason. Shouldn't we, as people, try to learn about it and understand it?
