I think it's unusual and much more incomprehensible for people to really understand than just being gay, but I think for those who have gender identity issues it is an extremely difficult thing to deal with and shouldn't be shunned off as "creepy".

That being said, I find the whole engineering elements of it to be somewhat mind-boggling.
