my understanding, having had both, is that anxiety you generally know the source of, panic you do not.

i used to have panic attacks at my first job - i'd suddenly start pouring buckets of sweat, muscles tense up, i'd kind of freak out... but it was just while i was in the middle of doing something.
anxiety is the same kind of reaction, but i KNOW what's happening and can take some immediate steps to help alleviate.
panic is hard because there's something else kind of hanging out that's difficult to pinpoint.
