I was referring to the same exact people you were referring to in your post, the use of the pronoun "those" is typically meant to refer back to a noun

which had been mentioned in the same paragraph, sentence, or conversation previously.
Thus, when I used "those people" I was referring to those "folks opposed to abortion [who] rely on religious and theological information when forming their political opinions to the same extent and degree that a lot of us rely on scientific information when forming our political opinions about global warming and climate change."
I'm not sure what is confusing about "those people" or what your point is?
