One of my favorite memories of Ireland was in Galway watching hurling

we had gone out on a river boat and had real irish coffees, walked into town and into random pub.
we opened the front door and the pub was packed and 99% *silent*. It was like a record scratch of us opening the front door. All TVs were tuned to the Galway vs Wexford match, and opening the doors threw sunlight into the place and everyone turned to look at us.
We slunk through the pub to the back patio area, where there was some additional seating - also all turned to TVs, and everyone watching, but some people had kids and such so it was a little more open.
A nice couple next to us with their baby, the guy was explaining the scoring and the play to us dumb Americans, but he was super nice.
It was super unique experience, and thankfully Galway won that day, so everyone was in great spirits by the end of the match.
