Not necessarily. Could be loss of blood flow to the brain as opposed to asphyxiation. -- nm

Signs of asphyxiation are hemorrhaging (can never spell) and pink teeth due to bleeding inside the tooth. Sign of strangulation is fractured hyoid. -- (edited)
