I hate the way my brain works. 1) I'm pretty sure it doesn't scale 2) *sigh* What are the instructions anyway 3) How tall is the Washington Monument -- (edited)

any way?

1) So...does it scale?

2) you want to get CHAINS NOT ROPE (it's 2020 AD not BC let metal work for you) extended tightly around the top (below pointy bit) and 1/3 down forming circles. Ok this is part that I thought might not scale but if it does how high is the Washington to get chain (not rope) around the top and then continuing to make circles 1/3 of the way down

For every 10+ feet of monument you'll need 40+ people. So for a 20 foot monument, you'll want probably 60 people. Uh, so it is not linear? You want strong rope attached to the chain---rope easier to hold onto versus chain. EVERYONE NEEDS TO BE WEARING GLOVES FOR SAFETY (there is a lot of safety first)

You probably want 150+ ft of rope x 2...you'll want to be standing 30 feet away from obelisk so it won't topple on you (your safety! first!). This gives enough slack for everyone to hold on to rope, alternating left right left right. Here's the hard part...pulling in unison. Ok another does it scale point and tall is the WM?

3) Turns out the WM is approximately 555 feet tall depending on when it was measured according to Wikipedia. Gonna need way more than 150 feet of rope....

Sooooooo....turn out my biggest objection against does it scale is how do you get up there is the easiest to answer. Walk. There's stairs inside. Or take the elevator. Granted you've got to take a bunch of chain with you.

Ok..so there's a practical way to get chain up there. How much chain? At the top, let's round off and call it 34.5 feet per side. So one wrap is 138 feet of chain. Actually I think that's the dimensions at the main portion below the little pyramid at the top. So let's say 10 wraps to get to 1/3 the top (utterly guessing, the thing is 555 feet tall, 10 seems to an absolute minimum) so 1380 feet of chain? Seems like a bunch of chain. You're also going to need at least some fishing string to use as a lead to attach the ropes to or the ropes themselves.

Then how does one get the chain around the monument. Multiple times. Starting at over 500 feet in the air. I'm not sure that a team sticking their heads out of the windows and "Hey, I'm going to throw it your way" works. Especially since that's around a corner.

Oh...and I'm still not sure how the people part works. 10 feet of monument = 50.5 sets of 10 feet but 10 feet = 40+ and 20 feet = 60 people. Screw it and go with that 20 foot relation ship so 50.5 x 30 people = 1515 people. Probably the easiest part of this arrangement. Though you gotta figure out how that many people can pull on the ropes attached to the chains

So while I've just proven that I don't have common sense, isn't it common sense that those instructions don't scale and there's no need to post the obvious of not pulling down the Washington Monument? ;-)
