Zunk, no one is talking about abandoning any and all armed response. You know they aren't so don't argue as if that's what's being proposed.

We don't need armed cops stopping jaywalkers, ticketing speeders, responding to a lot of what occupies a cop's time.
There will be a properly trained (if Minn. does things right, which they may not) force to respond to calls involving violence or the threat of violence.
Ideally, we'd address the scourge of guns, too, so that police would no longer need to feel like they are in an arms race with certain criminals. Radically reduce the availability of firearms to both citizens and cops.
