er, though for that specific example, MLB already went after Trout for apparently not being enough of a star

That's an interesting example. MLB has previously tried to go after Mike Trout in the past for something as innocuous as not having a social media presence and there was a general support of Trout by his fans and to some extent the media.
The Angels have made the news repeatedly for their cost cutting measures in spite of being one of the higher revenue clubs so perhaps Arte goes along with MLB.
Those aware of Trout are typically huge fans for what seems to be a generally good guy if perhaps on the quiet side and being an amazing player. At the same time, he's seemingly under recognized by the average person.
I'd like to think that if Mike Trout chooses to sit out for whatever reason that the fan base would support him and turn on MLB.
