Is it possible that the NFL can't legally bring up Kaepernick? I'm guessing that his silence on the recent NFL announcement is due to legal reasons.

He signed an NDA, they probably agreed not to disparage him. Never mentioning him would be an unlikely agreement, he's in their official stats. -- nm

I posted on B2 that they should pressure Goodell now to show he's sincere by waiving the NDA. He'll be fired of course. -- nm
