I think the fundamental idea is “If you were starting a system from scratch to take care of people, what would it look like?”

And it doesn’t look anything like what we have now.

It means properly funding social services, rehabilitation, mental health services, family counseling, etc.

It doesn’t mean getting rid of the police. It just means taking a bunch off their plate and moving that funding to areas where it’s better served.
