The point I was making is that Republicans used defund to mean "get rid of" intentionally. They wanted that association.

Mostly because their base wants Planned Parenthood to not be funded by the government, if not gone completely.
Not many in the liberal base want police gone entirely. Yet that is what people think of when hearing "defund". Liberals should move away from that term for the simple reason Republicans have already tainted the word.
