Tankers are a mess but they're a little more recent than that 8-) They've been jets since uh, well 707 days but

they have new engines and been re-winged.
The oldest have been retired or gone to ANG. Those are the KC-135.
There are newer (relatively) tankers based on the DC-10 and in a lack of imagination operate under the KC-10 Extender designation.
The bidding mess one is the KC-46 and based on the 767. Well, I guess it is a technical mess as well. I got to see one on static display at an Air Show at Travis AFB last year.
