I feel like police unions have vastly miscalculated.

The default state of union heads is outrage. It's not even just a police union thing. When my union is negotiating a new contract for us, we get regular emails about how everything our employer does is outrageous, and then at the end of the day, everyone's smiling and shaking hands. So maybe not so outrageous after all? These b.s. emails only make me want to look at things from the other side, frankly.
But police union bosses are usually outraged about things maybe they should shut the fuck up about. "My member is being persecuted because he was enforcing the law!" No, he's being investigated because he killed someone. "This witch hunt may mean my membership will have to be less severe in the pursuit of their duties!" Sounds good to me!
Now, they're choosing to fight and die on the hill of "We're totally entitled to use violence against people who weren't violent!" I'm pretty sure that very basics of the laws you're supposed to be enforcing don't back up your claims.
Chickens are coming home to roost. I don't hate unions. I think they're good. I believe everyone should have a union. But police unions are bad.
