And it is quite possible that it has everything to do that I've seen four of these over three days (and NASCAR in between)
But it was fun to not hate everybody. Well outside of the cold open and the doctor while he needed to go, he probably didn't deserve exactly that. It also looks way better so that generally improved mood over the last two.
While they were set up as dumb college kids, slasher fodder, our leads are generally smart. At minimum they seem to behave like actual human beings could conceivably behave when faced with either freezing or going back into a sanatorium with three cannibalistic hillbillies.
They make plans and they generally execute them. When they fall into an audience screaming at the screen trap of sorts, even that kind of makes sense as this isn't Scream and why wouldn't they make that choice.
I mean I'm pretty sure that anybody watching is gonna be, oh c'mon, don't do that, it is so obvious but if you're scared out of your mind, you've seen a guy brandish a gas powered auger (that was a new one to me), seen your friends...hmm..at least one by that point, die before your eyes and others disappear or die not before your eyes. Heck I'd do the same thing.
Oh and the other scream at the screen choice even that kind of makes sense...well, sort of..not really..but the appeal is a human / humanity based one.
I did get kind of a giggle out of my observation / prediction with regards to last couple but at this point in the series, it was the more obvious choice of two girls as the last couple.
I've taken to watching these (well definitely this one) of just not watching some of grosser scenes. Like close my eyes, hand over my glasses, looking like an idiot, not watching as I was generally into this one as a movie and didn't want to be so put off.
So when the almost jump scare, barely gory (but still kind of gory) sequence happened it caught me completely off guard 8-P
For the even movies, I've managed to go 0 for 2 as to who I'm rooting for. I've really missed as I don't think they've even made it till halfway
Though this one was particularly annoying. Why you gotta kill the guy who's got the girlfriend taller than he is? 8-P That actually being on screen doesn't really show up in any genre very often.
And then.....*cringe*....why you gotta kill him like *that*. Though I guess he gets more scenes?
Now I kind of need a map as the through line for this movie as origin adds up for the characters but I've no idea how it works from this movie's location to the location of the other movies. There's also to me a question of motivation. If they were here for this movie, then not only how did they get to the other location but why'd they leave this place? Seems like they had a good thing going.
Actually for part of it, I guess they drove there as we get to see an iconic vehicle but the why.....
There's two more of these so perhaps somebody will actually address that.
I guess Lucas did a trilogy and then went back to a trilogy before that trilogy and there's 6 of these Wrong Turn movies....
