That's definitely not my guy Declan's movie in any shape or fashion.
This one they're barely trying to pretend that it is West Virginia. I think it supposed to be vaguely the county, I mean it should be but it wasn't clear...oh...wait..there was the obligatory Greenbrier Sheriff so I take it back, they do barely pretend
But in general, it's almost Gothic like. Well seemed that way to me.
I gotta give credit to director as it seemed to me, the directors attitude was one of: I got this shitty director job making this shitty sequel to this questionable franchise but godammit, I'm making a movie. There's shots supposedly made by GoPros. There's underwater shots, there's waterline both air and water shots. There's stylized shots of supposed visions / flashbacks / under the influence. Fire lit ummmm...family get together and ritualistic bloodletting sequence.

I will also rave about Sadie Katz who just absolutely goes for it as Sally Hillicker. Having looked her up is apparently a guild writer, producer and director as well (!) Equal parts creepy, sexy, crazy...hmmm..actually probably not crazy. Obsessed is a weird way??
OH! It just occurred to me that this one has a last couple. Maybe not the traditional last ones standing last couple but there's definitely a last couple for the closing shot.
So I've got my disappointments after the actual sequel construction of 4 and 5 (well for this franchise they were the equivalent of shot back to back). This I guess has to be after 5 cause new location and before Wrong Turn just by the number of family members.
The special FX makeup really stood out in this one in a bad way. The character who is essentially the star (only character through all of these) looks like he's wearing a plastic Halloween mask. A cheap one
Oh...and it is the horny one of the series. Not just have gratuitous sex and then die in a Friday the 13th fashion but near sex, as well as sex that's an actual part of the plot line. Ummm....and we hadn't gone there before cause um, ew, inbreeding is a fundamental part of the setup of this series.
So we're back to an all but standalone movie but it is at least a different look
