If the plan was to address the big crowd inside the arena, then exit the arena to address (for argument's sake) an equally large crowd -- (edited)

while leaving the arena crowd inside twiddling their thumbs, then that was a dumb plan to begin with.
I wonder if he actually "cancelled" it as reported or if he just never materialized for the outside people who rumored that he would.
