I don't have them but don't they stick out of the top if it's open and can then safely avoid any possible gunk on -- (edited)

Can you charge them if the top is open? Either way a quick wipe down after use isn't a big deal to me and we all have wipes or some kind of cleaning liquid with us these days.
I'd happily let someone I know use it to charge their pods
