Speaking of getting kick ass recipes from unexpected sources, I'd love for somebody who can cook to hear what they make of the dishes / explanations

in the Food Wars anime. Season 1 is available on Netflix as well as Seasons 1 AND 2 are on Hulu.
FWIW, I think I prefer the subs on Hulu to Netflix but I haven't watched the same episode on both of the services yet. The Hulu subs include signs as well as provides commentary on language jokes / puns
Anyway, in nearly every episode there's detailed explanations as to what a dish is trying to accomplish, why ingredients and cooking methods were chosen, what that adds to the taste, and so on and so on.
As my cooking skills are pretty much boil water and grill stuff, I've no idea if it makes any sense or actually works. Sounds really cool and there's amazing images including the occasional molecular structure diagram
