I had a friend say something similar when I got engaged. it was termed in the past, but I think it flowed through to the present. I don't think

there's a good answer. mine was to essentially confront it. along the lines of "why are you telling me this now?" and it led to sort of an awkward stilted dodgy conversation that didn't go beyond "I just thought you should know," in spite of some pressing. we're still friends, but less friends? maybe wouldn't be if we didn't have mutuals?
mine's different because it seemed clear she had an agenda, or was trying to make herself feel better, and maybe yours doesn't. I don't know, but maybe not what I did? I don't think there's a good way to not have it awkward for a while.
