It’s also to minimize the wear and tear on pitchers.

Since you won’t have an entire AAA team in shape ready to call up after a weekend series with the Yanks/Sox where they play 35 innings over 16 hours of game time and the winning pitcher is a 36yr old position player who last saw a pitching mound in 2001 in middle school.
You can’t ship out 3 relievers to bring up replacements in this season.
