How does a fast food place make a hot dog that sells?

Do you make it small, something like a compliment to the main meal (the burger)?
Do you sell it for a dollar?
Do you grill it or bathe it in hot dog water or steam it then wrap it in foil so that the bun is damp?
To you partner with a brand name like Nathan's?
How is it we're more likely to buy hot dogs at sporting events than burgers, but won't buy hot dogs at fast food places?

Hot dogs are usually the cheapest thing at a sporting event. That makes a difference. -- nm

Sonics hot dogs don’t taste good. Costco has great ones -- nm

Price is a huge factor. You can't charge $8-10 for a hot dog, no matter how loaded at a restaurant. -- nm

A&W has Whistle Dogs (Probably not a big seller). Costco has Hot Dogs (Probably a big seller). -- nm

There are plenty of fast food places that do hot dogs, but they are mostly local independent places that have been around for ages. -- (edited)

Pretty sure DQ has them. But generally, here at least, there are plenty of hot dog places, they're just not major chains.

Specialize! I love Wienerschnitzel. If it didn't so adversely affect my blood pressure, I'd eat there more often than the monthly or so that I do -- nm

They don't seem as much like a meal - unless they're loaded, and then they're messy :-) -- nm
