I was going to ask if you tested a subaru, but instead I will just say, in your weather situation it probably doesnt offer a ton more

though granted, AWD really isnt the same across all manufacturers. at lot were (when I bought my car 2 years ago) really FWD that would send some power to the back wheels when the car thought it was necessary.
unlike subarus, and fancier cars (BMW, Audi) where its always like 51% front, 49% back.
