I blame some combination of the Phantasm and Wrong Turn franchises as well as George Michael.
It is..right there...in the lyrics.
My proposed 2 and 3 make more sequel sense than some of the links in the previously mentioned franchises.
Oh...and it is Kate's sister's ex-partner that gets pregnant in III. The happy couple from Last Christmas has gone off the rails at some point. The ex is single and pregnant and Kate's ghost finds out and reunites the couple. Er but that's a really bittersweet if not flat out dark ending, they reunite, baby mama ends up dead and uh, the two sisters (one being dead for the previous movie) go on to raise the child.
