We're getting the tracks for solar panels laid down today - guy goes up on the roof and says, oh, there's a problem, you need a new roof first

these shingles are 40 years old - they're still holding up but I don't want to put down tracks on old shingles that have to be replaced soon. Sensible. I'd agree.
But wait - we had our chimney fixed two months ago and specifically asked the guy to look at the roof while he was up there for this reason. Oh, hold on I'll check, solar guy says.
Yup, they did half the roof.
