Microsoft was reportedly trying to get Nintendo and Sony to agree to Game Pass on their consoles. Microsoft sees where the money is.

Hardware is a money loser. Subscriptions is free money every month.

I really would love to understand the economics of it all, to justify so many different platforms.

Sony has a contract with Microsoft to use Azure as the backbone of the Sony game streaming services so not just front facing portion of it that helps
