I'll answer these as best I can.

There are a lot of spawns, including of some rarer Pokemon. There is also an increased chance of pokemon being shiny, but the luck you have with that can vary widely from person to person. There will also be some limited research as well as global challenges.
It probably depends somewhat on how often things spawn near your house, but there should still be an increased rate. If you have incense you should be fine. It sounds like incense will last 1 hour and spawn a new pokemon at least every minute if not faster. Having pokeballs may become an issue.
I don't know how much raids will feature. They might be part of the stuff on Sunday, but that may be largely team rocket related. If there are raids that others can't do then it would probably work like an ex raid where trying to interact with the gym would say it is closed for a raid. You could still spin it, but I think that's it.
Most, if not everything, should be possible solo.
The only real benefit to doing it with friends would be if there are raids.
A few other things. There was a schedule posted with the times for various themes (for lack of a better word). One of them is friendship. You don't want to send out gifts on that day until you reach that time frame. There is a global task related to that. If you want a good idea of what its like, it should start in NZ in 2-3 hours. You could probably find people on twitch playing at that time.
