I can't disagree with a lot of what you say. I thought thematically, what they did the first 2 seasons was great, but somewhere along the way they got bogged down in metaphysics and kinda lost me. They got me back when they found the barren "earth". I certainly appreciate that they tried to tie up all the loose ends, but I think the way they did it was less than satisfying. I'd rather have a loose end than something tied up in a haphazard manner.
That said, I still think the finale was good overall. Just not Great.
