In normal times, Go Fest runs in specific location (Chicago, Dortmund, Yokohama) for several days, but players can only buy a ticket to a single day of the Fest at each location. The experience is the same each day so does not matter which day you buy.
At in-person Go fests, it has been all about spawns, usually in various 'habitats' physically themed around the Go Fest park (e.g. a ghost habitat, a fairy habitat, things like that). Spawns at each Go Fest have included:
- some rare pokemon (not all are rares but some are)
- increased shiny rates for pokemon that can be shiny
- unown (certain letters, varies by go fest year)
- a regional pokemon not normally available in the city hosting the go fest
- the release of a new shiny pokemon
- field research from stops at the park that give good rewards like rare candy
- special research that gives early access to a new mythical pokemon
- usually 2k eggs from all stops that can hatch just about any pokemon so you could hatch a magikarp or a larvitar or a gible
This at-home go fest is two days long for all players. **WE HAVE NO CLUE WHAT DAY TWO WILL ENTAIL as they are keeping a secret but have indicated that it will be something different, whatever that means**
Day 1 sounds basically like the normal in-person go fest with habitats rotating by hour for players (rather than players walking around to different habitats in the park). The habitats are Water, Grass, Fire, Battle, Friendship. We don't really know what the spawns will be, we'll start learning that when down under starts playing.
Incense lasts an hour and is more effective normally right now due to COVID (1 spawn per minute). During Safari Zones, it was 2-3 spawns per minute, which I expect will happen for Go Fest, so you don't *have to* go anywhere if you don't want to, just use incense.
Go fest does not normally involve raids. In fact, the go fest park usually does not have gyms at all during go fest. I expect raids may be involved in the surprise Sunday portion of this Go Fest, but we have to wait and see.
