That Mississippi River question caused me no end of consternation in trying to put it together.

I was going to use individual cities since city limits are cleanly defined. But that swamped the list with Minneapolis suburbs with names like Coon Rapids.

Then I thought about official Metropolitan Statistical Areas as defined by the US census. This worked pretty well until I hit Rochester, MN, which is definitely not on the river but has a tiny sliver of its MSA an hour away dipping its toes in the water. I also had some issues finding the boundaries down in Louisiana, so I dropped that idea too.

I ended up just adopting the one from Wikipedia.
