I don’t see it as all-or-nothing. There must be a way for you to declare and your cousins can do whatever they want.

I understand that if you declare, the payers probably have to declare too, or it doesn’t balance out. That would certainly set off alarm bells at the tax office if you said you got this money but the people who gave you the money didn’t say anything.
So that might force your cousins to declare as well.
But here’s the other situation: if the payers declare and you don’t, those alarm bells well go off too. You don’t want your fate dictated by others.
