TikTok’s future has me thinking about Microsoft’s mobile strategy.

It’s clear that Microsoft has embraced Android at this point as can be noted with the Windows Surface Duo mobile device, an Android phone with Google search on the main screen. Goodbye Bing. I think Microsoft’s biggest feather in their cap when it came to Windows Phone was that Metro interface. Those who preferred it, at least, really, really liked it. There’s a number of sites out there that’ll show you how to use a combination of different launchers to get that Metro interface in Android. Microsoft should release their own Metro launcher for Android. I think Microsoft’s handling this right finally. They have Android and iOS apps galore. And my Windows desktop connects with my Android phone effortlessly. It feels like there’s very little overlap between Microsoft and Google these days so that people don’t have to choose between one or the other. Even Microsoft’s browser is just a re-skinned Chrome browser.
What I’m saying is that Microsoft will merge with Google while Apple will merge with Facebook and your fate in this post-apocalyptic wasteland will depend entirely on which side you choose.
