I was watching videos over the weekend in which people were still saying its a thing.

maybe they were wrong (the videos were published within the last month or two).
Responses:
it looks like the fix was to not have the game auto-load you into a new session once you lose

Ahh. Haven't played since mid-July. Ghost of Tsushima is just sooo good. It's one of my fave games this gen, easily. -- nm
