My kids have them. They provide accommodations for students in school. They are kinda like "mini IEP" as I understand it. It isn't "special ed" but

just little changes. For example, my kids 504 plans included things like
- Preferential seating in class (can basically pick whatever seat they want)
- Can use laptop/phone in class to take photos of notes/assignments
- Can request electronic copies of teacher lectures when needed
- Can request extra time/private room for test taking
stuff like that
