Hey Californians! My mother has heard that when an earthquake strikes, you're supposed to go outside rather than stay in the house.

Move away from windows or anything that may fall (Tall bookcases, TVs, etc.) Get under a table or desk if possible. Old suggestion to stand in

don't go out, wires can come down and you'll get electrocuted or rubble fall on you.

I thought it was best to not try to get outside because that in itself is dangerous (ie - trying to walk/run during an earthquake)? -- nm
