Plus, a lot of folks (alumni especially) didn't like the "Southeastern" connotation.


I remember that especially. It was a weird sort of reaction. Folks were fine with any sort of western affiliation, but being part of the Southeastern United states was too much.

A lot of it was the perception that the Big-12 was biased toward Southern schools -- Texas and Oklahoma in particular. But I think part of it was cultural, too.

And with Arkansas already a longtime SEC school, it was a lot easier for Missouri to jump in, too.
