I'd much prefer a "life without parole" option over the death penalty. Tends to be cheaper AND if new evidence comes to light

then the person is still around to be exonerated.

Our system isn't perfect and I'd really rather not impose irreversible sanctions. You can compensate a person for lost time. No amount of money can bring a person back from the dead.
